Directions by Car

For travel times and distances from other points in Costa Rica you can use a distance calculator. Examples are   yourtravelmap.com or googlemaps.com.

There are two main routes from San Jose, but we recommend the new toll highway (HWY 27) & coastal road which takes 3.5 to 4 hour from San Jose International Airport.

Travel on Route 1 toward San Jose for a little over 12 kilometers. Exit to Route 39 toward Hatillo/Escazu for approximately 2 kilometers. Exit Route 27 toward Orotina/Jaco. There is a quicker way to 27 if you are familiar and comfortable with Costa Rican roads. You can check Googlemaps. After 58 kilometers on Route 27 exit Route 34 toward Jaco. You are now on the Costanera highway. You will travel approximately 170 kilometers to our exit. After you pass the entrance to the village of Ojochal (south of Dominical and Uvita) our road will be your next left. There are signs at the road. After turning left you will come up the mountain approximately 300 meters. Castillo is the first structure on the road. You will enter a set of black gates and arrive!

Private Driver

By prior arrangement we can arrange private land transfers from San Jose Airport or your hotel. The current rate is approximately $200 each way. Once at El Castillo we can make rental car arrangements and have them delivered to the hotel. Please contact us for latest price details.

Please note that there is mandatory insurance in Costa Rica regardless of rental company NOT covered by any credit card plan you may have. The cost varies between $13 to $20 per day depending on model. Make sure this is included in your quote. We are more than happy assist you with your rental requirements so please do not hesitate to ask us.

By Air

Regional airlines Nature Air (www.natureair.com) and SANSA (www.flysansa.com) operate regular flights
from San Jose to Palmar Sur. You can have a rent a car delivered to the airport and it’s an easy half hour
drive up the coastal highway or we can arrange for a transfer.

Shared Shuttle Bus

Various shuttle bus companies offer point to point transfer to Uvita, please note that none of these companies
have 4x4 as such best travel to Uvita Information Center and take a Taxi (4x4) about $20 each way.
